GOOD NEWS. Yes I do have alsconf and I also have sndconfig. In Konsole I logged on as the root user and ran sndconfig and it ran. My sound card is not listed, ESS1869. I checked ESS1868 and got brief sound. Is it possible that trial and error on selecting sound cards amy work? The reason it did no work before, I do not know. I ran the command at the command line (not in Konsole), and it did indicate root. It would not work. THANK YOU.
