hi guys....just joined....just installed linux mandrake 10.0 64 bit edition...
question....when i log into linux....and try to browse certain area of the hard drive....for instance where the games are located ...

hi guys....just joined....just installed linux mandrake 10.0 64 bit edition...
question....when i log into linux....and try to browse certain area of the hard drive....for instance where the games are located in usr/games dir....everything in there is locked....i only created one user...so i dont understand why im not able to make changes...how do i allow myself to make changes...

perhaps they are owned by root?
try logging in as root

ok, when i log out....to try and log back in....theres only one option to log in...so how do i log in under root...

no, just a symbol with my name beside it.....i click on the name and it loads....
also, im using gnome too..i dont know if that makes a difference..

okay
well login as a regular user, and then open up a terminal.
if you want to do something from command line as root:
and then enter the root password.Code:su -

ok, cool...thanks...ill try it...also, one other question if you dont mind...how do you switch between different desktop designs
