first timer needs tom linux help
i just installed madrake 10.1 on my old pc. it has a 750 amd in it and a 20g hdd. during the install i came accross several little errors in the different programs. i do have a working command line now though. i have a cheat sheet i have been playing around with but i want to you use a graphical interface. i tried typing KDE but its full of errors. what do i need to do to get a graphical interface working on this machine?

try typing drakconfig. That should bring up a windows that will allow you to configure your X sever.

Go through the install process once more. After all the packages are installed, a window will appear allowing you to select different options to configure like time zone, network and sound. One of them will be for graphical interface. Go through that wizard. Make sure to test it and are happy with it before your accept and continue.

ok i ran the update and these are the errors i got while doing that
core utilis-doc-5.21-4mdk

xcdrogat-098-35 alphakmdk
when i click on the graphical interface button ofter the install i get these errors
(EE) failed to load module "bitmap" (module does not exist)
(EE) failed to load module "pcidata" (module does not exist)
so what do i do now? i still have it at the point with the options right after the install.

Don't upgrade, just re-install.

i am at the configure screen after the install now. in the graphical interface button when i hit test i get the same errors
(EE) failed to load module "bitmap" (module does not exist)

i would really like to get this up and running but im starting to loose hope...

come on guys some one has to be able to help me. this computer is an old compact could the components just not be compatible?

You shouldn't get program errors during installation. It could be that you have a bad disc.
