    try fsck on /dev/hdb1

    lol...was doing that as you were typing it...

    Anyway, came back with :
    fsck 1.34 (25-Jul-2003)
    e2fsck 1.34 (25-Jul-2003)
    fsck.ext2: Attempt to read block from filesystem resulted in short read while tr ying to open /dev/hdb1
    Could this be a zero-length partition?

    Going to check 2 and 3 now

    2, I didnt do cuz its mounted and it said it may cause severe damage.
    3 I got this:
    fsck: fsck.swap: not found
    fsck: Error 2 while executing fsck.swap for /dev/hdb3

    that means that /dev/hdb3 is swap space.
    you can either kill it or use it:
    Code:
    swapon /dev/hdb3

    ok, so obviously my stuff must be in hdb1.

    Any other ideas of how I can get the data off of this disc??

    How do you unmount a drive?
