I'm guessing he used gnome/kde's control panel type programs to config the mouse.
just a tip to increase efficiency for those that don't know
enable sloppy focus on your WM (window manager)
When you hover your mouse over a window (no click needed) it *focuses* the window for you.
You can have it also auto-raise or not, I don't use auto-raise, but I use auto-focus. It saves a lot of clicking and moving that you'd normally do in windows.--monkey
