the kernel source is just the source for the linux kernel.

Lakerdonald, I am currently posting this reply from Konqueror on Mandrake. I installed the Kernel Source and eventually figured out a few other details and I hope that when I reboot the machine it won't remove it. Currently i'm running slmodemd in run level1 as root, will i have to do this everytime to get the modem working? Haven't found out yet as i haven't restarted the comp yet. Just want to say a really big thanks for helping me so much and replying always so promptly. I really appreciate it and its really kind of you to concern yourself with a newbie's stupid mistakes and lack of knowledge. Thanks a lot buddy.

No problem. Try the modem from runlevel 5
