Mandrake 10.1, nVidia driver problem in text mode
Hi guys

I have a Toshiba M35-S456 notebook and installed mandrakelinux 10.1
official on it. After successfully compiling and installing nVidia driver
v1.0-6629 (the graphic card is GeForce FX 5200), I encountered a strange
problem. Everything's OK if I stick to X server, however if I switch to a
text-mode tty (ctrl+alt+F4..7), a few large and heavily distorted
characters appear. the same thing happens when I exit X server,
terminate the session or switch to any other runlevel from X.
So in brief, whenver I switch to text mode from X, I get a distorted
screen. I tried different resolutions and modlines for M35's widescreen
display in X server config file. unfortunately, neither of them helped
the situation
I'd be thankful if you give me a hint
Cheers,
Mehrtash

I have the exact same problem, as does every other nvidia customer on Mandrake, apparently. I found a solution on the nvidia linux forum, but I haven't had time to try it yet. Let me know if it works.

Interesting. I don't have that problem at all. Running MDK 10.1o with an nVidia 5500fx.

as suggested on nvForum post (thx Workaphobia), I removed vga=788 line from my lilo config file and the text mode is now working perfectly; however
in 80x25 mode
