modem and mandrake 9.1

my modem is:

I/O ports at e 800 {size=256]
capabilities : availiable only to root
e 800-e 8ff pci device 1813: 4000

can i use this modem with mandrake 9.1 ?
if not, can i rehabilitate it ?
if not, what modem do i have to buy ?
one last question
how can i get the kernel

check out http://www.linmodems.org for advice on what to do as far as internal/PCI/Winmodems are concerned.

You may have recived the kernel source with your dfistro (check /usr/src/linux) although you may not have loaded it at instal time. If not then pop along to http://www.google.com/linux and put in the search word kernel and see what you get.
