Ordinary single-user PC. Ordinary, but PostScript un-aware inkjet printer. No network ever to be considered. I (a newbie) think CUPS in such a set-up is way overkill - and it has proven to be error prone, too.

I have consulted the 'net for a procedure to replace CUPS with a simple, no-frills printing system (LPRng??), but have so far found nothing with enough details.

Any suggestions, any one-step-at-a-time solution to this, or even a good reason to, nevertheless, stick to CUPS?
