Hia gain Ugo,

I'm at work at the moment and not at my own machine, but, if you can pardon my ignorance, how exactly should the path to download be keyed in as there can be no errors? I also downloaded the installer to my 'HOME' folder, if that's any help or not.

Thank again

Since you've downloaded it to your Home folder, it would be something alike

urpmi /home/<Login Name>/fileName.rpm

Replace the <login Name> by your login Name,
replace fileName.rpm, with he actual name of the kaffeine.rpm

Hi again Ugo,

It didn't go to well I'm afraid, here's the data readout after the installtion completed ( it downloaded sompackages also)

Installation failed:

ftp://ftp.sunsite.org.uk/package/man...01mdk.i586.rpm
You may want to update your urpmi database
[root@dhcppc0 martin]#

Can I not just reinstall the old package from the DVD Rom and then attempt to upgrade Kaffeine by installing a newer verion over it?
Thanks,

The new version require New Libs....
Go here To update your URPMI database, mabye the one I gave above is an older one...
I use one from USA... I've set uou up with a UK one... Follow the instruction the page gives...

Code:
urpmi.addmedia --update updates ftp://ftp.sunsite.org.uk/package/mandrakelinux/official/updates/10.1/main_updates with media_info/hdlist.cz
its the UPDATE one you need to change... so take the proper config choice, and follow to step 3 then take the line that says "urpmi.addmedia --update" and run the command in terminal with ROOT then try again

Hi Ugo,

Sorry, still not getting anywhere except it now wants to install only 4 packages and gives the following data;

root@dhcppc0 martin]# urpmi /home/martin/kaffeine-0.5-1oli_mdk.i586.rpm
To satisfy dependencies, the following 4 packages are going to be installed (131 MB):
kaffeine-0.5-1oli_mdk.i586
kdelibs-common-3.2.3-98.1.101mdk.i586
libkdecore4-3.2.3-98.1.101mdk.i586
libkdecore4-devel-3.2.3-98.1.101mdk.i586
Is this OK? (Y/n) y

Hi again Ugo,

I found another solution. I re-installed Kaffeine 4 from the DVD Rom and then downloaded libdvdcss2 i586, assuming it would overwrite i386. It seems to have worked, the DVD's are playing again, except for one or two and that may be due to additional software they try to install.

Thanks for all the help, much appreciated.

Is you DVD regionless?
libdvdcss access DVDs as a block device, and is not dependent on Region code. This shouldn't be an issue.

Hi Big Tom,

The region code isn't causing an issue but do you know the way some DVD's, such as 'The Matrix' come with special software that they offer to install for you to enable special features? Well,as these are intended for Windows and not Linux, Kaffeine doesn't seem to like them and it causes the playback to stop, but Kaffeine no longer crashes, it just says the DVD is not in the drive. I blame the special features software as only one or two movies are affected.

Thanks for all the help, did you see my other thread about WIN TV Nexus? I posted that in another website forum and have been directed to another site, if I get anywhere, I'll post the results.
