Problem Installing New Software
i am a newbie to linux. i have a dual booting system. my system is athlon xp 2400+, asus v7n motherboard, samsung 80 gb hdd, asus cdrw and asus dvd.
i am trying to install new programme using the .tar.gz method vut all the time i am running in the problem as it just does not install.
can anybody help and tell me how to install the programme?

Can you be a bit more verbose? What happens when you try to "install" these programs? What steps do you go through and what (if any) errors do you get?

I am using mandrake 10.1,
i am trying to install krecipes. i start the the installation. i start the shell and type ./configure. i get all the checks it runs all the checks then it shows an error message.
Checking for X...configure:error:Can't find X includes. please check your installation and add the correct path.
2. i am trying to install MDBtools. it asks for glib2.0 or higher.
3. vcdimager plugin for k3b. it asks for libcdio.
can you help
