Go to the Mandrake Control centre and find the Harddrake bit. The menu on the left will list devices and - I hope - your card. That's a start anyway!
You need to find which driver is linked to your card. Soundblasters are well supported. I'm at a Windows machine now, so can't step you through this very well. The driver you might like to try is Emu10k1 (I think).
There's some help available from within mcc: a 'Troubleshooting' button. It can take a little while to set up your sound, but well worth it. I have the same card and - using ALSA - it works almost too well!
A screeching sound? Trying removing the Linkin Park cd from your player (just kidding)
PS: You will need to supply your user password to access the control centre. A problem a lot of people have is this: they get the sound set up and hear nothing. If you're using ALSA, it might be muted by default. You will need to unmute everything that seems relevant ... Good luck mate.I am always doing that which I can not do, in order that I may learn how to do it. - Pablo Picasso
