That would be different (for Mandrake). I believe you have the option to use grub, but I know that by default it uses lilo (which means that /etc/lilo.conf would have to exist).
There are two major products that come out of Berkeley: LSD and UNIX. We don't believe this to be a coincidence.

Ok I tried checking the box 'Force no APIC' as well as the other in the boot config & that has worked. Thanks to all who helped me
