I want kde, how would i go about doing that? i have a gentoo packages cd cause i was trying to install that before, but no luck. It has kde on it, maybe i can use that?

When you boot in Mandrake you should be given a choice of session, eg 'default' or 'KDE' etc. Do you get that? If you do then if you choose 'KDE' you should get a proper KDE display. You should also get it in the 'default' setting but I'm playing safe here just in case your default isn't what i would expect it to be.
If you are still having problems then there might be something something wrong with the installation of Mandrake.

I stuck in another old video card, and tried icewm. I have a desktop now.
But im using the mini cd, so kde wasnt an option, but i have a kde tbz2 on another cd, how do i install it?
