installing Firefox and other programs
I'm new to Mandrake 10.1 and I went to download Firefox and it wants to open with Ark, I can't quite figure how to get it to install . I selected all files and extracted, then I didn't know what to do. Any clues? Thanks.

Since you extracted, you will now have a directory named firefox-installer, to install go to a terminal and type
replace /path/to/ with the real path in which firefox-installer is e.g. /home/jack/Code:cd /path/to/firefox-installer ./firefox-installer-bin
Now a window pops up, and away you go.
For a good tutorial on installing lok here.

ok. I did the chmod 777 and then I got nothing... does that means it changed the permissions?
then I put in the other line and got nothing... no open window to tell me if it was installed. is there a better way to install programs? there must be a better way. thanks

I was able to install it through http://rpm.pbone.net/
rpm extension work most of the time, but I had some that didn't work. overall I've been able to install Firefox and Thunderbird, tried to install Mplayer, but none of the downloads worked.
also trying to get DigiKam to work I can't recognize my Olympus C720 digital camera. I'm sure there's a work around somewhere.
