    Disk defragmentation

When I was using windows I used to run disk defragmentor periodically. I wanna know what actually fragments are and is there any such tool on Linux platforms? Do we really need one?
Thanks for any help in advance.

The good news is, Linux doesn't require a disk re-fragmenter b/c the OS is designed in such a way as to not defrag it! Whoo hoo!!
