No GUI

I'm a Linux newbie who has installed Mandrake 7.1 unto an IBM Aptiva E25.

Since installation, I have been unable to see any GUI and when I manually try to start GUI (using startx), I receive the following error:
"hostname: Unknown host
execve failed for /etc/X11/X (errno 2)
_X11TransSocketUNIXConnect: Can't connect: errno = 111 giving up
xinit: Connection refused (errno 111): unable to connect to X server
xinit: No such process (errno 3): Server error."

you should upgrade; the new mandrake 10.1 download edition has great system spec requirements. for old pc's.
