    i did that but it only gives one option . any other way?

    Try:
    Start Menu -> System -> Configuration -> Hardware -> Screen Resize and Rotate

    If you have only one option, maybe you have not the correct video driver.

    Thumbs up Thanks for the help.

    Akil thanks for the advice. I just installed Mandriva today and initially set up my comp. with the wrong resolution. I tried to fix it, but my chioces were limited to what I had or lower. I followed your advice and it worked perfectly!! (that and logging in as root, I still have to get used to that . This community support is what makes Linux so attractive to NOOB's like me who are adept at running Wind*#ws, but in the dark with Linux.
