I have exactly the same pb.
I manage to solve it with debian sarge, switching to kernel 2.4.27 to install it...
Problem is : intel ICH6 is correctly recognized with kernel 2.6.11.6 (kernel of the mandriva installer...) but no disk are found...
Yet, i951PM chipset run well with orginal kernel 2.6.11 debian patched (I currently use it...)...
If somebody found a workaround to install mandrive : wellcome !...
