Help FOR LAN

Hye! I'm a newbie in Linux. I have inslalled on my PC Linux Mandrake 10.0 and i can't make my onboard LAN to connect to my local area network, nor to the internet. The thing is that i have a VIA chipset with lan, and sound onboard. The CD for the chipset doesn't have support for kernel 2.6.x.x, just for kernel 2.2.x.x and 2.4.x.x. The official site www.via.com, doesn't have support for my kind of chipset. Can I do something ?? I hope i don't have to buy another sound blaster and ethernet adaper....PLS HELP !! 1-x very much. OK, then how do I install the driver? Because it always says "Network is down" eventhough i reconfigure my connection. Where do i get the driver? From the cd or from the site...?

OK, but mine it isn't. What should i do? any suggestions? Maybe it will work with mandrake 10.1 ? Guide me pls.
