Print on networked XP from linux
I am beginning my dive into linux, and I need some help from someone who is more familar with it than I am.
I have a windows XP box sharing a printer. I would like to use my computer running linux to print on the printer shared on the XP box.
Quick Overview:
Mandrivia Limited Edition 2005
Computers networked via a router running DHCP
able to ping both computers
unable to browse the network (attempted using Linneighborhood)
CUPS and Samba appear to be installed (although I am unsure how to check)
Windows network: Blueroom one
XP computer: Tandesk
Printer: Brother 5100c (share name: Brother)
If I had to guess, I would say that the linux box would need to have the workgroup settings adjusted, so as to appear on the windows network. In linux, I am unsure where this setting should be made. When attempting to browse using Linneighborhood, all I get is a blank screen.
Any help would be appreciated, and again thanks.

I don't know what command checks if services are running in Mandriva/Mandrake. I do in Debian, in Fedora, and in Slackware, but not in Mandriva
. Anyway, other than having CUPS or Samba installed, they must be running. Samba is not needed for printer sharing (you can share your printer with Samba but it's fairly simple with CUPS alone I think). Anyone, if you want to use those, you must have them running. I read CUPS can handle Linux printer server & Linux/MS clients, vice versa, I don't know...

This might help browsing the network:
open /etc/samba/smb.conf
change workgroup = MDKGROUP to workgroup = Blueroom one
and reboot samba.

I am using Linneighborhood to attempt to view the network. Is there another way that anyone can suggest. Thanks again.
