?
Just plug the modem into the ethernet port of the machine? Maybe?
I'm assuming, based on the way your question was worded, that you've got 2 computers one with xp and one with linux.
My house isn't networked
so what I've got to do every time I want online in my room is take the modem from the main computer and plug it into my machine, but aside from that, I don't question it. It just works.
Sorry I couldn't be of more help, but your question is a bit awkwardly worded...
