I've been trying to install Linux Mandrake LE2005 on my HP Pavilion m1270, with no success..

When I boot the machine with the disks and run the setup alt1 mode/text mode, the installation seems to hang while doing the following:

"Please Wait...

Installing driver for hard drive controller ATI Technologies Inc|ATI 4379 Serial ATA Controller"

And when I press alt-f3 to view the logs is states "needs sata_sil"

ALT-F4 for the Kernel Msg gives me the following:

<7>Apic Error on CPU0: 00 (40)
<7>Apic Error on CPU0: 40 (40)
<7>Apic Error on CPU0: 40 (40)
<7>Apic Error on CPU0: 40 (40)
<7>Apic Error on CPU0: 40 (40)


I'm new to Linux and currently (and might I add, UNFORTUNATLY) running >Windows XP Home Edition.

I'm stuck guys...can anyone help?
