I wouldn't do it that way personally. In fact I have no experience of installing KDE from within an already installed/running distro. There is a specialised package for doing that, but you would need to learn how to use it. If you have your installation disk you should be able to use that, but then you need a gui!

The best bet would be to backup Mandriva and reinstall from scratch
