    can't get sagem modem to connect to internet

    I've just done a fresh new install of mandrake 10.1 Official, for the second time. I just can't get my Sagem Fast modem to connect to the internet. My service is with Tiscali UK. Mandrake finds the device. I put in all the pname/password, etc. I say yes to starting at boot, but when it comes to test the connection, it fails and says it is not connected to the internet.

    Can anyone offer advice, or ste-bystep guidance in case I've made a stupid mistake somewhere?

    It is the newish modem, only a few weeks old. All works fine under WindowsXP.

    Not sure how to ensure Linux knows that the Mdoem is network device to use, as I do havea LAN network card too. Everything else is running fine, just can't get on the net with broadband. BTW, the dialup works OK.

    Searched all the forums and tried all suggestions so far, but to no avail.

    modem

    What kind of setup?
    PCI modem (winmodem or hdwr modem)
    DSL modem thru LAN
    External modem
