Shutdown Probs
I'm having probs trying to completely shutdown Mandriva. When I go to Log Out, than choose Shut Down PC, Linux goes through its normal steps where you get the black screen with all the listings etc and finally the last word on the bottom of it says Shutdown: hda and below that says Power down and thats it. The PC just stays on and I have to manually press the Power button for it to turn off.
Now this strange because previously I was trialling Ubuntu and it did completely power off.

Most likely an ACPI problem - it's quite common. If you go into the Mandriva control centre - "Configure my Computer" - and find the boot menu, there should be a tick-box for ACPI. Make sure this is ticked and this may help.
I believe the other method is to go into your lilo.conf file and change settings in there, but I have no experience of doing it that way.
You'll need to supply a root password to change things in "Configure my Computer".
Let us know how you get on.I am always doing that which I can not do, in order that I may learn how to do it. - Pablo Picasso

Appreciate your help and yes it did work. I am assuming ACPI is power management. Well the good new now is that it shuts down.
