Problems with X
Hi,
Although I'm new to Linux I decided to get myself a simple webserver running Mandriva 2006. I have previously used an Apache, MySql, PHP package on a windows machine. To make things easier I decided on a motherboard which is certified by Mandriva, the Gigabyte GA-KV8M800M with a VIA chipset.
The installation ran fine in graphics mode until it was time for the graphics. The installer identified the graphics hardware as a VIA chipset with S3 UniChrome - perfect - But! when running the graphics test there is an error message saying "(EE)Failed to load module "via" (module does not exist, 0)
(EE)No devices detected"
After that the installation continues without any problems and i can boot up Mandriva in text mode. Trying to start KDE brings the same error message.
What can be wrong, I thougt the via module was included in kernel 2.6.12-12?
Being a newbie I dont know how to proceede from here.
Thanks in advance.
/Jan

It seems like many Mandriva users have had problems with your type of card. You could try and reconfigure the graphics card from the command line using xfdrake or xorgconfig. If that fails, you'll have to use the vesa driver.
