    Question Mandriva 2006 Problems

I recently downloaded all 3 ISO's for Mandriva 2006. The install went fine but when I tried to run linux after the reboot I had a bit of a problem. As it is booting up the screen suddenly goes black and all I see is a solid dash in the top left corner that doesn't blink. The last message I see before the screen goes black is: Starting mDNSResponer. If anyone has any ideas or help it would be greatly appreciated by a linux noob like myself

I somehow doubt that mDNSResponder is what's killing your system (take that with a LARGE grain of salt, though)...I would guess that it's whatever is trying to load next.

Shot in the dark, but have you tried booting using acpi=off? There should be a screen at the boot prompt that you can access that would show you how to do this (usually it's by pressing F1). Booting with noapic (or a failsafe mode, if available) might net you some progress as well.

Did you test your X configuration during the install? Technically, you usually should get to a command prompt even if X fails, but hey - it's something to try.
There are two major products that come out of Berkeley: LSD and UNIX. We don't believe this to be a coincidence.
