dvd unrecognized

Hi
I'm New at linux
my dvdrom on my laptop,only works as cdrom.
i could not install libdvdcss,because it wasn't an rpm
iwent into configuration harddrake,changed the mount point to dvd.
from /dev/hdc,And a few other options
now it locks up,I can't use devises sometimes they don't even come up
also the configuration in hard drake won't come on so i could not change things back.
Anybody Help

i kept going in,and restarting my pc, and ending session till i could go back
and undo my new settings.
After that i must have found a good libdvdcss,because it actually installed.
hallelujah!!!
my dvd now at least reads dvd
but it won't play dvd movies

do i need a xine dvd player,and where does one get one?

Hi - you will also need to install libdvdread . Not sure where you can get this as an rpm, but if you get stuck it's not hard to install from source.

Sometimes getting dvds to play can seem very hard, but in the end it's not too bad. Just keeping posting your questions and you'll get there.

Xine comes with your Mandriva installation (as far as I remember) so it should be lurking somewhere on your hard drive or on your installation disk.
