    i have problems with my mandrake linux 9.1'
    • is there a driver for Motorola SM56 Voice modem (old modem )
    • how to recompile a linux kernel after i change the /usr/src/linux/.configure file

    I am totally unaware of the first question's answer.

    As far as the second one goes, The simplest way is to execute this command in your kernel source dir (/usr/src/linux<version>)

    Is there an advantage to sticking with version 9.1 instead of upgrading to the latest?

    No - Not in my opinion. The later versions of Mandriva are more functional, have fewer bugs and in fact I would think about installing either Mandriva 2006 or Mandriva One.

    I would avoid 2005 LE as it has a slow boot time.
