It's hard to say. Has it ever worked for you, or did you install something else and then find that X started to crash? Faulty RAM might cause a crash, or buggy software, but now I'm just speculating.
If you could start Mandriva up in console mode, you could check your log files in /var/log And you could also type dmesg and read some of the output ... It's strange because as long as your installation went well, X shouldn't crash. It might be just one package/system process doing the damage.I am always doing that which I can not do, in order that I may learn how to do it. - Pablo Picasso

X probs
Hi - I would be willing to give this a shot - but you must be patient because of language dificulties ...
Please answer these questions:
1. when you start your machine what comes up - KDE? Console?
2. Have you ever had success with KDE - ie does it run fine until ??? and then crashes OR does it crash when you try to start it?
Lets start there ...- Clouds don't crash - Bertrand Meyer
registered Linux user 393557
finally - hw to brag about - but next year it will look pitifully quaint:
Athlon64 X2 3800 - 1G PC3200 - 250G SATA - ati radeon x300
