wifi madwifi problems by installation
i now just got myself mandriva one, and am very happy, since even i understand part of it...
now i neew to get my wireless networkcard going.
i told me to use madwifi for that.
i downloaded all the madwifi packages i found there
now i used the second one on this guide:
http://madwifi.org/wiki/UserDocs/Dis...rake/OldGuides
now when i type this :
i get thisYou have to install certain packages as root before you can compile the module (don’t worry, nothing will happen if the packages are already installed):
user@machine:/home/user/$ su -
root@machine:/root/# urpmi kernel-source gcc
Then compile, install and load the module:
root@machine:/root/# cd /home/user/madwifi
root@machine:/home/user/madwifi/# KERNELRELEASE=`uname -r` make
root@machine:/home/user/madwifi/# KERNELRELEASE=`uname -r` make install
root@machine:/home/user/madwifi/# modprobe ath_pci
what is wrong???Code:[nils@localhost ~]$ su Password: [root@localhost nils]# /root/ bash: /root/: is a directory [root@localhost nils]# cd /root/ [root@localhost ~]# urpmi kernel-source gcc no package named kernel-source no package named gcc [root@localhost ~]# cd /home/nils/madwifi-0.9.2/ [root@localhost madwifi-0.9.2]# 2.6.12=`uname -r` make bash: 2.6.12=2.6.12-19mdk-i586-up-1GB: command not found [root@localhost madwifi-0.9.2]# [root@localhost madwifi-0.9.2]#
and a new guide came out today...
but it can once again not find the kernel-source...
new guide at http://madwifi.org/wiki/UserDocs/Distro/Mandrake
now this tells me to download the kernel .rpm file...
but what kernel have i got???
the end also said
i never had any checkboxesTroubleshooting Mandriva ¶
* It is possible to install Mandriva without the neccesary tools (MCC doesn't have the tools cited here) by not checking the "Configuration" and "Development" groups during the initial installation. You'd best use your original installation media and choose 'upgrade' after starting to re-install.
and i dont have any entry in the mediamanager in the control center...
im somewhat lost...
note:
im downloading a file called "kernel-source-2.6-2.6.12-12mdk.i586.rpm" since i think i need to have it for the kernel... but it is 50 mb
is that right?

mandriva one is the "smaller" distro and doesnt have the full resources you need to get all working.....when you configure your computer (drakconf.real) you need to add more sites to pull from, I also added more locations from easyurpmi.zarb.org
