I can only give you a very rough idea as I've never done this, and I had to look this up but ... I think it might be possible using Jigdo (designed for Debian). My Linux Format magazine offers an option to do this by default using Jigdo. It does this by locating distro files on the DVD, assembling them together and generating an ISO image (or images) to burn to CD-Rs.
To burn the new iso to a CD from the command line you would need to do:
cdrecord -v dao speed=12 dev=/dev/cdrom discname.iso
making sure you replace discname with your real disc name and the speed and dev options to match the specs. of your CD writer.
Good luck!!I am always doing that which I can not do, in order that I may learn how to do it. - Pablo Picasso
