    Unhappy Mandriva 2007 No sound

I've upgraded Mandrake 10.1 to Mandriva 2007 a week ago. Everything was nice and easy except there was no internet (Speedtouch 330 USB ADSL) and no sound (ForteMedia FM-801 PCI soundboard that worked just fine in mdk 10.1). As you can see I've managed to deal with the internet connection, but I had no success with the sound.

    What I did was:
    - unmuted all channels with kmix and alsamixer - no luck
    - successfuly upgraded the ALSA driver, lib and utils from version 1.0.12 to 1.0.13 - no luck
    - executed alsaconf 1.0.13 - no luck.

No luck! No music! No movies!

Strange thing is that the sound from unmuted microphone can be heared on the headset and on the speakers.

I'm a big fan of Mandrake aka Mandriva, so I won't give up easilly.
Any help from a Mandriva literate would be fine. Thanx.

Hi - well you've certainly tried all the right things there. I'm not sure; actually I don't know your sound device. Have you tried using OSS instead of ALSA for a while?

    Many thanx, fingal!

Your suggestion of trying the OSS driver and not successfully doing so, led to the ideea of activate the VIA on board sound and deactivate the deprecated FM-801AU.

Now the sound is working and I am enjoying my brand new Mandriva 2007!!!

I'm on my 3rd install of MDV 2007, because the first two times I got an error message about not being able to mount my sound card. Seems to be okay now, though.
