Black screen with L then 10 lines of 07
HP Vectra System
PIII -730MHz
Maxtor 20G HD with Debian Linux installed (hda)
Western Digital 160G extHD installing Mandriva (sda1)
After installing Mandriva to the extHD ,booting for the first time without the Mandriva isoDVD, the screen went black and then printed L 07 and repeated 07 for about 10 lines. It may be because there is a grub in the hda and lilo in the sda1. Any other suggestions?

where did you install lilo? sda or hda?
first of all, if possible, unplug internal disk and boot up from External HardDisk. is it booting up?

Lilo should be in MBR of sda not in sda1 partition.
try to boot from External disk after un-plugging internal disk.

... also, if that's a Grub error code it means:
I'm not sure what that means though.7 : Loading below 1MB is not supported
This error is returned if the lowest address in a kernel is below the 1MB boundary. The Linux zImage format is a special case and can be handled since it has a fixed loading address and maximum size.I am always doing that which I can not do, in order that I may learn how to do it. - Pablo Picasso

unplugged internal HD error then just a black screen
Had a problem with debian recognizing the extHD.
Writing over debian with mandriva to see if there is another way.
- 11-21-2006 #7it means Lilo is not installed correctly. keep internal disk unplugged and boot up from Installation CD, install Lilo in MBR of External Disk. you can add an entry for Internal Disk's OS later on. if possible, install GRUB coz its very easy to handle and tweak GRUB.unplugged internal HD error then just a black screen
