Ive tried reading in a couple of sections here and they are not helping me....

execute 'su -' in terminal/konsole to gain root privileges.
you can use vi or kate instead of nano.Code:su - nano /boot/grub/menu.lst
CasperIt is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.

after using GRUB and kate command.
i changed the root(hd0,0) to (hd0,5)
I then saved and restarted when i pressed windows i got this error
root(hd0,5)
File System type is ext2fs, partition type 0x83
Make Active
Error 12: Invalid device requested.
Any Comments on this
When i Mapped it did the same thing.

I think i know what I did i accidently formatted the hda5/ it was late last night, so if there is anything i can do suggest it otherwise im reinstalling windows xp tomorrow then mandrake, unless you suggest any other linux's for a beginning user.

i dont think its a big problem. this thread stretched too far coz a few things were not clear.
( Lilo --> GRUB ).
distro choice is a personal matter. all have pros n cons. try several and check which one is the best for you.
