noob need help with mandriva 2006
I am a complete noob att Linux!
I have downloaded and installed a 3-disk set with Mandriva 2006 for i586 (whatever that meens) on my pc-laptop.
Laptop spec:
Asus
Intel PIII 850 MHz
128 MB Ram
9,3 GB HDD
I comes as far as the loggin part, but when I have logged in it just sais:
[jompaglitter@localhost ~]$
"jompaglitter" is my local loggin-name. It seems I have to put in some command but I don't know what. And if I press enter it just writes the same thing over again.
What's going on??

Hi - Probably when you installed, you didn't ask it to boot into a gui by default. There are quite a few desktop environments to choose from. For example Gnome, KDE, etc.
Try typing startkde and see what happens. If that works you can log into the Mandriva Control Centre and ask it to do that by default.I am always doing that which I can not do, in order that I may learn how to do it. - Pablo Picasso
