Well I did a re-install (update) from the DVD. Re-set the mirrors with easy-urpmi and did an update. Now at least have Gnome display manager (I am using KDE) and the restart, shutdown and end session buttons now show up on the logout session screen.
Will try your suggestion for boinc.
As a side note to that, I used Mandrake from version 7 to 10, but when I upgraded to Mandriva 2006, I was sadly disapointed and started using Open Suse. In open suse, whenever I shutdown, whatever was open would be open upon restart, so I assumed it would be the same with Mandriva 2007.
Anyway, thanks for all your help!
