Mandrake 10.1 - log on as root?
I've installed Mandrake 10.1 on my machine, but at the GDM I only have the choice of the users that I created, and cannot log on as root. I need to do this to do some printer modifications, as the text box asking for the account permissions does not allow me to put in the root account and password.

Just type as user's name root and then your password.
If this fails, I don't know why can something like this happen, try logging in from console, root as linux login and then type startx to start the gui.

Re: Can't login as root
Hi k0rrupt10n,
You can just type `who am i` from a terminal console ie:
option 1
$ who am i
option 2
# who am i
The above mentioned options, is a clue to the permission you may hold as a standard user or the root user. Option 2 with the # prompt, normally indicates you are currently logged in with root privilege.
I hope this is of help.

Mandrake
You see, Mandrake only allows a drop-down list of users and does not let you type in Root as a user. Where do you change the Init Runlevel for start-up, to bring me into command prompt at startup?
