Community and firewalls
Hi
I am using Mandrake 10 Communiity, does it have a firewall? Do I need one? and if there is not one with Community where can I get one? I am fairly new to linux and so need a fairly straight forwards programme to load.
Also is there a virus programme that is easy to set up? Do I need one?
Cheers

I'm at the office, where we use XP Pro, and I use mandrake 9.2, but I'll give it my best shot.
The normal shorewall in 9.2 does fine for me. It's in the mandrake control centre under networking, there should be an icon for the firewall. I deselect everything, meaning no `ftp', no `webserver', no `allow everything'.
That's usually good enough (if this is for the desktop). I don't use any antivirus and I don't think many people do. However, it doesn't hurt to check your logs every once in a while -at first the logs may seem almost like gibberish, put, like the matrix code, if you stare at it long enough you begin to get it.
Edit: Good one! At the bottom of linuxforums.org/forum it reads:Our users have posted a total of 48176 articles

10.0 uses Shorewall. You can get a lot of info on it here:
http://www.shorewall.net/
But like Darl said, it's pretty easy to make a basic configuration using MCC.
Good Luck!
