Mandrake boot up problem
I'm running Mandrake 7.0 version 2.2.14 kernal still and it won't boot past the final text boot up ending with the login under Tux the Peguin bad blocky graphics. The original box's motherboard seemed to have fried out and wouldn't even start to load and when I put the hard drive into a different box it stops at the point where the GUI/X graphics and video drivers should be active. The screen then blanks out and starts to flicker on/off and I can't type anything into the input line for login. What has happened and how can I get it running again without wiping it clean and reformatting. I had tons of info and data stored with my Apache webserver.

Is there a way to stop it in the middle of the boot up to get it to configure the driver for a monitor?
