best linux for home PC
Sir,
I have used various linux distros for 6 years. The easy ones are PClinuxOS, Ubuntu, and Mepis. You should try several and find one you prefer. The "live CD" distros are nice as you can run them from the CDROM and try it out before you install to hard drive. I suggest that you experiment with a non-critical computer or just setup a removable hard drive tray so you will not trash the family's main windows computer. As you learn more you can install both windows and linux on the same machine but this is not for beginners.

"Best" is in the eye of the beholder. We can't tell you what you'll think is "best" because we have no idea what you consider to be good or bad features in an operating system. DistroWatch is a good place for general surveys of various popular Linuxes. We also have a thread for this:
