Advice on PCMCIA card?
Is there a 802.11g PCMCIA card out there that Mandrake 10.1 will auto detect like I have heard it doing with many cards? Any advice on this subject would be great. I'm looking to upgrade my entire network to 802.11g and I might as well get a card that runs seemlessly with Linux. Again, I'm looking for a card that Mandrake 10.1 can detect on installation without having to go through a painful configuration of ndiswrapper or any other programs. Thanks,

I have read posts of people saying that their PCMCIA cards auto-detected during linux install and worked with no configuration. Anyone know a 802.11g card that would do that with Mandrake 10.1?

NETGEAR WG511! It should work out of the box with Mandrake, and if it doesn't it will only be a matter of adding firmware

Remember if you are using Comuunity edition there was a bug that prevents PCMCIA module loading.
There was a line -
modprobe yenta_socket
that needs to be added to [etc]/etc/modprobe.preload[/b] file to allow it to autodetect. Now I have my atheros card detected and drivers added...but none of my graphical tools recognise it e.g. kwifimanager.

The WG511 is auto-detected, auto-configured and works perfectly with MDK 10.1 Official. That's from personal experience.

The downloadable copy is community or official?

You can download both. Community is the pre-release of Official. Use it for getting the bugs out.
