Cable Modem Trouble
I have a Motorolla SB4200 SurfBoard Cable Modem connected through Comcast. I have it connected via RJ-45 and USB and have tried both separate. Manndrake, RedHat, Gentoo, Suse, and FreeBSD can not started eth0 which is the my ethernet card (intel 21143 based PCI Fast Ethernet Adapter (generic)). My connection work in windows
What is the problem and how can I fix it
Well, as long as it's connected to the nic Linux doesn't care what modem you're using.
Time to do some tracing.
0)Are you sure your using a straight ethernet cable? If it's twisted pair(used for connecting two machines) it wont work. Signals won't go to the right place.
1)is your card/chipset supported?
2)Do you know for a fact the card is working?
3)Do you use dhcp?(most likely yes)
4)If so, did you select dhcp durring the install?
5)Have you checked the cat-5 cable to make sure it's not kinked/broken somewhere in-line?
That should give you a good starting point.
