I'm hoping for constructive assistance here.
I purchased a Compaq/HP SR1920NX refurb -Micro ATX AMD ASUS mobo; 200Gb HD (Samsung SP2004C); 1.5GbRAM
Cannot get Mandriva past install screen, even trying all given options on the screen.
AM I to understand it is the Sata mobo chip stopping the process( I believe I saw this written SOMEWHERE)? What can I do as a work-around, or is there one?
Thank you SO much for your help (I hope). I am looking forward to the change from Win to Linux
Hi - which version of Mandriva are you installing? What make and model of video card? Is that a 32 bit CPU?
With problems like that it's nearly always a hardware issue as you rightly suspect.
I am using on-board graphics installed with Mobo. It's an Athlon-64 3500 running at 2200GHz
Mandriva-free-2007 downloaded DVD from MadTux.org (the one that is supposed to install the correct version)
Hi again - very hard to diagnose. To be honest I'm guessing (not a good idea!) but it's probably the onboard graphics. If you have a spare graphics card hanging around you might like to plug that in and try it.
Specifically at what point does the install process hang? Error messages are useful. :D Some combinations of mobos / chipsets can cause problems.
I managed to get as far as the partitioner by switching to 32 bit version. Now I just have to read up on IT as I don't understand its interface ( not as intuitive as Ubuntu- which I also tried-it got as far as the partitioner and then crashes)
I'll keep reading!
