installin Nvidia...!!!

i have installed the mandriva 2007 on ma sys....i have nvidia mx 4000 grafix card...

i tried installing the drivers in failsafe mode i mean entered in init 3 mode...

became a super user and tried installin it
i get a message called no precompiled kernel found..

though i started installin at the last i get the message installation could not be completed...
check in /var/log/nvidia_installer.conf file for details

so actually wat does it mean be no precompiled kernel.?
how do install my grafiz card?

"No precompiled kernel" is normal. It's not an error with your system. It's a hold-over from older installers that would connect to Nvidia's site and download a precompiled driver for your distribution. You should still be able to install the driver, just hit OK.

If you're not going to give any details, you can't expect us to help you. If you used my method, where did you have problems? What step, specifically, gave you trouble?

If you're looking for easy setups, forget Mandrake and try SuSE.

Anyway, the nvidia driver setup has multiple steps.

1) Make sure gcc is installed. If it's not, go into your control panel --> software management --> install software and chose gcc to install.

2) Then, when you're in the terminal, change your run level to 3 by typing 'su init 3'.

3) Now run the nvidia installer, and when it asks you if it should look for pre-compiled kernels, just say no.

4) Using the gcc you downloaded, it' should reconfigure and compile the kernel. Then just follow the rest of the instructions.
