Installing packages

I am having some problems installing rpm packages after a recent reinstall of Mandrake. Instead of automatically starting the install when I double click on something, a little program called the kpackage opens and I then have to click install. The only problem with that is that it doesn't put buttons in the menu and I am not smart enough to figure out how to do it manually. I am a newbie and would appreciate any help any of you have. Thanks!

did you try from terminal?

open terminal, become root and type; rpm -ivh file_name.rpm

just type urpmi file_name and that should do it....

this will work if your urpmi is set up http://www.urpmi.org

but last time i installed mdk 10 it was included in the default install.....so urpmi is really easy way for new users.
