kfmclient wont start after mounting data pencil

Just wondering if anyone has had the same problem.

Im using mandrake 10.1 (kernel 2.6.8.1-12)

i assume there is a background application that mounts any inserted usb devices, just as the cd-roms are mounted when a cd is inserted.

The cd mounting does not worry kfmclient

when a usb data pencil/mp3 player device is inserted, i can access the files
via the console and via any currenly running kfmclient windows

however when a new kfmclient window is started say

kfmclient openURL ~

it hangs and then dies

any help would be much appreciated
