I currently run a dual boot Ubuntu and Vista. I really want to try out Mandriva and managed a live CD install of Mandriva 2008 by disabling apic.
If I install to HDD i will probably have to diable apic every time I want to run Mandriva and enable it to run Vista.
If i install to HDD is there some way i can get around this issue.
Welcome to the forums! :)
Maybe you can disable apic for Mandriva only from within your bootloader (GRUB/LILO?).
Hope it works.
Do you know how to disable apic from the bootloader?
You might be able to disable it by adding acpi=off to the kernel line in GRUB. I don't run Mandriva so haven't tested it, however.
I am not so good with Linux, so can you tell me how to change GRUB settings.
Add acpi=off at the end of kernel line. Press Ctrl+X, Y and hit Enter key to save file.
In case, nano is not pre-installed, use vi.
Press i and edit file. Press Esc key and type : x. It will save file.
