Root

I have oinly just installed Mandriva 2007 and was unable to install the updates because i was not online at the time, so could someone please tell this newbie how to login as root when you open a terminal please. Thanks

and your root password. You can't see what you are typing, don't worry just type root password and press enter.

I did finally manage to work it out lol. But after typing my root password into the terminal and typed: urpmi.update -a

A lot of code appearded which i did not understand and it also required my passwork once again. So i typed exit and did a runner?

"urpmi.update -a" won't upgrade any packages. It will refresh your software repositories. To actually do an upgrade, you need to enter the command "urpmi --auto-select". This assumes that you have gone to easyurpmi and followed the instructions to setup the various main, contrib, plf and updates repositories for your version of Mandriva.
